The 2026 hurricane season is here, and we want to help you get prepared. The Atlantic hurricane season started June 1 and runs through November — forecasters predict this season will be below average.

This guide will refresh you on preparing for a storm and provide some resources to stay weather-aware — Charlotte is over 200 miles from the coast, but hurricanes can still hit the area.

Predictions

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) predicts about eight to 14 named storms, with three to six of those becoming hurricanes.

We recommend taking a peek at Ready NC's Hurricane Guide for specific guidance on staying safe at home, evacuating, helping others in times of need, maintaining your small biz, and creating an emergency supplies kit.
