It's a story we've been following since its proposal in 2024: Bank of America Stadium's billion-dollar renovation, bringing new LED boards, seats, suites, and spaces to the Uptown sports and concert venue. Now, we know exactly how the stadium will look, a ballpark estimate on the cost, and why the renovations are more than renovations to an aging building in Uptown.

Editor Maria here. Tepper Sports & Entertainment (TSE) hosted media last week at its new sales and fan experience center in Uptown before a fireside chat featuring TSE Owner David Tepper, Bank of America CEO Brian Moynihan, and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, and I got all the information you need to know about TSE's additions to Uptown and the Queen City's future. Let's hit the field.

Renovations ongoing

The first phase of the stadium's $1.3 billion renovations is underway, including updates to plumbing, electrical wiring, heating and cooling, and other unseen work. Phase two, which is slated to start in 2027, will include new seats, exterior upgrades, state-of-the-art sound systems, expanded concourses, and stadium video boards.

The Carolina Panthers and Charlotte FC will continue to play at Bank of America Stadium during renovations, as construction is expected to wrap in 2030.

Let's not forget: TSE is also planning to complete its proposed music venue and practice fields at the same time.

Visiting MoMINTum

This is where you come in. The renovations are more than just renderings; they're something to experience. Starting Aug. 24, sports fans and curious minds can visit MoMINTum, the immersive office and sales hub at Legacy Union. The privately funded space features a replica club lounge, history timelines, and an "immersive cube" where fans can step into renderings and explore what’s ahead for the stadium.

“I hope you're wowed! I think you will be,” TSE CEO Kristi Coleman told CLTtoday.

A bright future ahead

Media, Panthers legends + players, Charlotte FC athletes, and city leaders joined the fireside chat, where NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell endorsed the idea of a future NFL Draft or Super Bowl coming to the Queen City.

"I said it to David, ‘This is built for a draft.’ The location of Charlotte, in general," Goodell said in response to Fox NFL Sunday host Curt Menefee, who moderated the chat. "The draft now, close to a million people attend. It’s become a global event that I think would be a terrific thing here in this town and with everything that’s being built."

While a firm date or timeline for those events was not mentioned, one thing is clear: big things are coming to Mint Street — it's only a matter of time. Until then, we'll keep an eye on the Panthers' and FC's schedules.
