National Voter Registration Day is coming up tomorrow, Tuesday, Sept. 19. In honor of the day, we're here to help you make sure you're ready to cast your ballot for Buncombe County's municipal elections on Tuesday, Nov. 7.

When

If you're looking to vote in the municipal elections for Buncombe-Woodfin Sanitary Water and Sewer District Trustee, Weaverville Town Council, Town of Woodfin Mayor, and Woodfin Town Council, the deadline to register is Friday, Oct. 13. If you want to request an absentee ballot, the last day to do so is Tuesday, Oct. 31. Early voting runs Oct. 19-Nov. 3 on Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m at Election Services (59 Woodfin Pl.) and on Saturday, Nov. 4, 8 a.m.-3 p.m. at Election Services or Weaverville Community Center (60 Lakeshore Dr.).

Start your research, and see who's on the ballot for these elections. Note that you must live within the town limits of Weaverville, Woodfin, and/or Woodfin Water & Sewer District to be eligible to vote.

Where

You can register to vote or update your registration online in just a few minutes through the NC DMV website.

If you prefer the old fashioned route, you can print out a voter registration form. After you complete the form, mail it to Election Services PO box or hand deliver it to the Election Services building.

What you need

Due to new changes from the General Assembly, you'll now need a photo ID to cast your vote. If you don’t have identification for voting, never fear. You can now visit Election Services Headquarters from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m to receive a free photo ID card — no special documents needed. You’ll just provide some basic info, get your photo taken, then receive your card right there.

Added Bonus

Executive Director of the North Carolina State Board of Elections and UNC Asheville alumna Karen Brinson Bell will host a public talk titled “What’s Ahead for NC Elections in 2023 and 2024” on Tuesday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. in the Blue Ridge South Room of Highsmith Student Union of UNC Asheville. The talk will cover recent changes in voting laws and give voters the scoop on what's to come in NC elections.
