The Congressional District 11th Republican Primary Runoff Election takes place today.

Voting is open to residents of 17 WNC counties — including Buncombe — who will cast their votes between Lynda Bennett and Madison Cawthorn. The winner of today’s runoff will be on the November ballot challenging Democratic candidate Moe Davis and vying for a seat in NC’s 11th Congressional District. Rep. Mark Meadows quit March 30 to take a position as President Trump's fourth chief of staff.

All registered Republicans and those unaffiliated who voted in the March 3 Republican primary can vote in today’s election, as can unaffiliated voters who didn't cast a ballot in the primary. Before you head out, make sure you check your registration status. If you can’t find your voter registration record + believe you completed it, contact your local election official for help. If you’re unsure of your polling location, you can find it here. Polling spots will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

If you’ve voted in NC before, you won’t need to show a photo ID. However, if you’re a first-time voter who registered by mail and didn't include your driver's license number or the last 4 digits of your Social Security number on your form, you’ll need to show your ID to cast your ballot. Acceptable forms of ID include: a state ID or driver's license, an employee ID, a student ID, a military ID, your US passport, or a copy of your bank statement, paycheck, or a copy of a utility bill. If you can’t find an acceptable ID, you’ll have to vote using a provisional ballot.

Remember to bring your own mask, but in case you forget, masks will be available at the polls. Karen Brinson Bell, executive director of the State Board of Elections, also notes that all county’s locations will utilize social distancing, have spaced voting booths, protective shields, and hand sanitizer. Officials do not anticipate the new safety measures will cause any serious delays.
