We know the question on your mind, Ashevillians — when’s it going to get hot? Thanks to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Climate Prediction Center, we know what temperatures and precipitation trends to expect in our city for June, July, and August. While exact summer weather conditions typically can’t be predicted more than a week in advance, here’s a seasonal outlook to help you prepare for what summer will bring.

Reminder: The first day of summer is on Thursday, June 20.

🌡️ Temperature

Think hot. This summer, Asheville has a 40-50% chance of temperatures being higher than normal.

🌨️ Precipitation

Expect slightly more precipitation. Asheville has a 40-50% chance of seeing higher than average rainfall amounts this summer.

June

Spend some time basking in the sunshine, because this month brings the longest days of the year, with a peak of 14.5 hours of daylight. On average, the lows are generally in the low 60s and highs stay in the low 80s — but be prepared for temperatures continuing to creep up.

July

We can only hope the expected higher-than-average rainfall offers a bit of relief from the heat, because July is typically the hottest month of Asheville's year. An average low of 64.9° and an average high of 85.3° has us reaching for swimsuits, slathering on sunscreen, and waiting for a mountain breeze.

August

The sun won't be slowing down — the high temperatures of July will continue into August, with an average low of 64° and an average high of 84°. You won't be able to count on a breeze either, because August typically sees the year's least amount of wind.
