We already know you’re a class act, but back-to-school doesn’t have to be just for the kiddos. Kansas City has experiences + events dedicated to stimulating your adult brain. We’re covering 5 ways to feed your mind through food, networking, arts, and language.

Dish

Food for thought. Learning to cook starts with basic culinary training — cue The Culinary Center of Kansas City. They offer virtual and in-person classes separated by categories. These categories include fundamentals, bakery and pastry arts, regional cuisines, and more. ProTip: You can bring your own unopened bottle of wine to class for a $35 corking fee. 🍷

Network

Go green. Network with like-minded professionals + learn about sustainable business practices to implement at your own company through the Green Business Network. Participate in regular case studies, attend events to increase mindfulness, and gain access to resources. ♻️

Arts

Read between the lines. The Kansas City Public Library’s website simplifies the hunt for a good read with their reading lists. You can revisit past lists + navigate various collections like race + equity and nonfiction favorites. 📚
Analyze art via The Nelson-Atkins Museum’s live, virtual experiences for adults. Sessions last ~30 to 45 minutes. Museum employees give a closer look at art displays you may have passed by in a gallery + facilitate thoughtful discussion. The experience is free, but reservations are required. 🖼️

Language

Welcome to Zoom University. Johnson County Community College offers 7 foreign language courses all online — ASL/Deaf Studies, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, and Spanish. Before choosing a language, you can take a placement exam, which helps determine your level of skill in a specific language + your potential to succeed. DYK: A Forbes survey found that 35% of responding employers said they gave opportunities to applicants who speak a second language. 🌎
