Happy 913 Day, Kansas City. Today, Tues., Sept. 13, is a day to appreciate everything that makes the 913 area code worth celebrating. DYK — the area code was created in 1947 by AT&T and the Bell System. Raise your hand if you rep your 913 phone number with pride. 👋

What's the history of the day? In September 2020 (yes, just two years ago), locals Earnest Jackson, Samuel Lockridge, and Kendon McClaine worked alongside local government to create a proclamation that honors 913 Day in Wyandotte County.

Interested in celebrating with some fellow Kansas Citians? Wyandotte County is holding a 913 Day Celebration today from 5-8 p.m. at Vernon School (3436 N. 27th St., KCK 66104) + there are several all-day specials at participating businesses. Here's a rundown of what you can expect:

$9.13 specials from businesses like Kinship Cafe and Mason Jar Brews and Burgers; see the full list here.
A free tour of the Quindaro Ruins with Urban Hikes KC at 3 p.m. (currently full, but visit Urban Hikes' website to book a future tour)
30+ vendors (with gifts, art, and food) + a kids zone at the 913 celebration event

But that's not all. Downtown Overland Park is also celebrating 913 Day with a week of local specials as well as a 913 bingo competition. Promotions include:

Sandwich + coffee or tea for $9.13 from Homer's Coffee House
9.13% off fall decor from The Old Mango
$9.13 off purchase of $30 at Ten Thousand Villages (on Tues., Sept. 13 only)

See the complete list of participating Overland Park businesses + how you can play bingo for prizes.

Other ways that you can honor the day include visiting downtown KCK, Central Avenue, Turner, Rosedale, and Argentine neighborhoods to support the local community.
