Calling all the art gods and goddesses — add this new Museum of Fine Arts exhibit to the list of things you odyssey this winter.

The halls of the staple of Boston’s art scene will be getting some fresh Ares from the heart of the Acropolis. The new galleries of ancient Greece, Rome, and Byzantine empire art feature some of the oldest works in the MFA’s collection and will be ready to explore during opening day on Sat., Dec. 18.

The MFA is offering free general admission + informational programs to make sure Bostonians can get to the Greek. Tickets will be available at 10 a.m. today for the exhibit’s opening day.

Here’s a few subjects you can Greek out on.

🖼️ Early Greek Art gallery features art that dates back to the 10th century through the Persian Wars.

🖼️ Gods and Goddesses will highlight notable names in Greek and Roman mythology, including Juno.

🖼️ A picture is worth a thousand words, so explore the Roman Portraiture exhibit.

🖼️ Byzantine Art is a first of its kind in New England, and will showcase the point in history where East meets West.

🖼️ 20th- and 21st-Century Art is a series of rotating installations + the inaugural installation features a group of five sculptures + a painting by abstractionist Cy Twombly.

Find these collections and more on the second level of the George D. and Margo Behrakis Wing.

If you haven’t visited the museum in a while, there are a few updates to note — times tickets are no longer needed for general admission entry + tickets will be valid for the entire day. Special ticketed exhibitions will still require a timed-entry ticket.
