The Boston Athletic Association and the new title sponsor Bank of America have recommitted to the Official Charity Program with an anticipated $500 million. The new goal is to welcome 10,000 new runners into the sport over the next 10 years.

In the spirit of moving forward together, the local athletic organization has unveiled a new logo for the Boston Marathon. The iconic symbol has evolved into a forward-facing, athletic unicorn.

Elements of the new logo include:

Spike’s jawline is enhanced for the athletic and gritty nature of Boston.
The horn pointing northeast represents the direction of the Marathon route.
The new base of the unicorn showcases two sides coming together.
The break in the neck is symbolic of breaking the champion’s tape at the finish line.
There are 13 points on the mane, one for each decade of BAA heritage.

Head to the finish line to see the new logo in-person.
