The Boston Public Library announced that the updates to its Faneuil Branch are finally complete. The branch — located in Oak Square — underwent a $14 million, 11,700-sqft renovation and is poised to reopen on Thursday, Jan. 25.

The new design was created with feedback from the Brighton community in mind, combining the original art deco building with a need for functional and technological growth for a modern library. The renovation added 4,859 sqft of usable space to the branch, including:

A new children's room with a mural by Curtis Williams that includes drawings from local children
A community room with space for up to 72 people
A new elevator + public stair connecting to street level

The BPL invites the community to attend a ribbon cutting ceremony at 3 p.m on Thursday, Jan. 25 with Mayor Wu. The celebration will include a speaking program, light refreshments, and activities for kids.
