Katie here. 👋 Earlier this month I got the opportunity to watch fellow Louisvillians become ambassadors of the city through Live in Lou’s City Champs training program.

Via my bird’s-eye-view, it was exciting to hear from city experts + learn more about the Greater Louisville area — like how the first enamel bathtub was produced here in Derby City.

If you love LOU as much as we do and want to help spread the word about how great it is to live here, read on for how you can become a Live in Lou City Champ.

What it is:

Live in Lou City Champs help new or potential residents get all the info they need about moving and living in the Greater Louisville area — from the basics like setting up an account with LG&E to learning about the school systems to finding the best restaurants in town.

The best part? There are 100+ City Champs available with varying interests + skills for new Louisvillians to connect with.

What you’ll do:

Attend a training session at a rotating location in Louisville — the most recent event was held at Work the Metal in Butchertown.

At the training, you’ll learn the ins and outs of the Louisville area from Live in Lou staff, then hear from a rotating lineup of city experts from organizations like:

Waterfront Park
Louisville Sports Commission
Center for Neighborhoods
Metro United Way
Jefferson County Public Schools

Afterwards, you’ll enjoy drinks, snacks + networking and leave with all the tools you’ll need for your mentorship and connections to build upon.

What we’re still talking about:

What high school are you from?

It wouldn’t be a room full of Louisvillians if that question wasn’t asked during introductions, but aside from this training being Louisville in its purest form, Mikal Forbush, Education & Engagement Director at the Center for Neighborhoods, impressed the audience with a couple of Louisville neighborhoods no one had heard of before.

How you can experience this:

Greater Louisville area residents, business owners + members of community organizations interested in promoting our city in a positive way can apply online to attend a training session.

The free training program is held twice per year.
