Today is World Mental Health Day — a day created in 1992 by the World Federation for Mental Health. The link goes to a World Health Organization page. Is that the same org as the World Federation for Mental Health?

Acknowledging this day can be as simple as taking several deep, grounding breaths, indulging in your favorite self-care practices, or phoning a friend. If you’re looking to up the ante, the Frazier History Museum + 91.9 WFPK will be hosting an event to shed light on mental health tonight at 6 p.m.

Aptly named “Stop the Stigma,” the free event will include a discussion with local and national organizations including The Pete Foundation, Begin to Talk LLC, Norton Healthcare + NAMI.

These last few years have been a doozy, so we’re sharing three ways we enjoy mindfulness — a technique for coping with stress — in Derby City. Pro tip: this is not medical advice. We’re writers, not professional licensed psychologists

Getting outside

Reader Erin H. told us about the Moss Gibbs Woodland Garden in the Parklands (specifically in the Broad Run Park area). With multiple sitting areas, a giant circular courtyard + thousands of native shrubs and perennials, this is an idyllic spot to enjoy some fresh air and contemplation.

Reading

Few things are as relaxing as immersing yourself in the world of a good book. Luckily for you, we already have a roundup of 15 books written by authors with Louisville ties. Nice!

Self-care

The world of self-care is as diverse and varied as the 502 — and just one of our favorite ways to unwind is enjoying a personal spa day with the black raspberry vanilla body scrub + a pumice stone. Apply the scrub generously to your feet and exfoliate this oft-neglected part of your body.
