New year... new home?

If you're looking to change up your home design this year, here are a few trends you might want to think about adopting in your space — and where you can find them in homes for sale around Indy.

Art deco details

A century after it first dominated the design world, art deco is making its triumphant return. Think bold geometry, luxurious details, and jewel tones.

It doesn't get much more luxurious than this downtown penthouse, with vibrant bathroom designs, glossy finishes, and metallic accents — plus a perfect view of the Indiana War Memorial, which was designed in the 1920s.

Dark wood

This isn't your grandma's gloomy den. Deeper, "heritage" wood tones are making a comeback in doors, beams, and flooring, adding warmth and depth to a space while being counterbalanced with lighter walls and fixtures.

Check out how the dark wood beautifully frames the dining area in this 1910 home — which also sports a breathtaking matching staircase.

Outdoor living "zones"

Keep "open concept" layouts indoors. Dividing a yard into dedicated zones for eating, gardening, or playing sports will be all the rage.

This historic Meridian Park estate tackles the task nicely, with a stone patio just off the kitchen for al fresco dining, a swath of green yard space perfect for dogs to run or to play a game of bocce on, and a long driveway with open space between the house and garage that's the perfect size for a half basketball court.
