The Straz's next act starts now.

Construction on the riverfront performing arts venue's long-awaited ~$80 million expansion starts Monday, April 7. We don't have a construction timeline yet, but we can offer an idea of what patrons can expect.

The plans as of fall 2024

A new permanent stage facing the Riverwalk
Additional office and dining space
A new rooftop
A grand terrace on the north end + wrapping around the building
A massive outdoor "veil" providing a wealth of sun coverage

The vision

With the expansion, leaders of the Tampa institution aim to "inspire a new generation of arts patrons with a 21st-century performing arts experience," according to a release.

In addition to the enhanced facilities, the plan is to educate even more aspiring Cigar City performers + make performances more accessible (Think: Catching a musical number while on your nightly Riverwalk dog walk).

"It firmly positions Straz Center among the world’s elite cultural institutions and unites the world in a shared vision of Tampa as a rising cultural and economic powerhouse," according to the release.
