Move over, Olympics. There's another athletic event coming up that won't require a plane ride. Get ready for the 2026 Polk Senior Games, happening Saturday, Feb. 28-Saturday, March 14 at locations around Polk County.

The Polk Senior Games draw more than 2,100 participants annually, making it one of the largest events of its kind in Florida. This competition is just for adults ages 50 and up to shine in 30+ events, including:

Sports like bowling, golf, basketball, pickleball, and tennis
Ballroom, social, and square dancing
Track events
Games + puzzles like chess, bridge, and sudoku

Competitors will vie for gold medals and a chance at the Florida Senior Games. Big winners could even qualify for the National Senior Games. Registration is open through Friday, Feb. 6, and online registration is a new offering this year.

You can still get involved as a volunteer if you're not competing. An event this large takes a lot of volunteers — more than 700, to be exact. Reach out online to sign up to help market the games or run events.
