Winner: "Public Health Patch"

By overwhelming majority, our winner of the contest this year were these three exceptionally colorful painted pumpkins by the Santa Clara County Public Health Department. What's better than one pumpkin? Three. Described by the creators, "The Santa Clara County Public Health Department stands as a nurturing tree, anchored by strong roots and extending branches that offer support to our diverse community."

"Chihiro and Haku" | Photo submitted by Mary P.

Best detail: "Chihiro and Haku"

Absolutely amazing detail on this piece inspired by Studio Ghibli's "Spirited Away" film. Haku flying in a protective swirl around Chihiro with whiskers flowing behind surrounded by stars — it takes us right back to the film.

"Mrs. Doubtfire" | Photo submitted by Tiffany F.

Most inspired: "Mrs. Doubtfire"

It was a run-by gourd-ing. We're in awe with this homage to the late Robin Williams' character in the 1990s classic. It's almost like we can hear a faint "helloooooo..."

"Possessed Pumpkin" | Photo submitted by Cristian C.

Most creative: "Possesed Pumpkin"

Beware of this gory gourd. The stitching, sharp teeth, and bloody accents truly capture the creativity of celebrating the haunting holiday.

Congratulations to the Santa Clara County Public Health Department and all our finalists — you’re all the cream of the carving crop.
