In San Jose, we have a lot of pride in place for our historic + vibrant neighborhoods. From diverse eateries to eccentric architecture, each neighborhood has its own charm worth highlighting.

Last week, we asked you to submit your vote for the best neighborhood in San Jose, and from the submissions we received, we came up with our battling eight — let’s see who’s in the running.

🏠 Little Portugal vs. SoFA

The center of Portuguese heritage and culture is Little Portugal, located between 33rd Street + Highway 101. A reader notes that it’s “walkable, interesting, [and has] great food!”

SoFA, or South of First Area, is known as the creative district in San Jose. Its museums, galleries, and theaters make this district a must-visit.

🏠 Thousand Oaks vs. Vendome

The welcoming Thousand Oaks neighborhood is home to two beautiful parks, an elementary school, and the annual Fourth of July parade.

Vendome is walking distance to light rail + San Pedro Square Market, and boasts a rich history centered around the Vendome Hotel.

🏠 Willow Glen vs. Cambrian

Inviting you in with its friendly character + charm, Willow Glen features “Lincoln Ave. — [a] great place to walk and shop and eat!” reader Kathleen H. said.

The west-side suburb of Cambrian has good schools, lots of shopping, and is “a great area to raise a family,” said reader Erika V.

🏠 Japantown vs. Naglee Park

The ever-evolving area of Japantown has a “strong sense of community [...] and familiar faces” said one reader.

Next to SJSU is Naglee Park, a close-knit neighborhood with peaceful tree-lined streets, historic architecture + frequent events.
