In San Diego, we take food berry seriously — so we’re not going to hold back when it comes to açaí bowls. If you haven’t had one before, it’s a meal made of frozen açaí puree then topped with fruits, nut butters, granola + other treats.

You can find plenty of healthy bowls throughout our city, and of course, we didn’t stop with açaí. To celebrate some of our local shops, here are six eateries that go nuts — or bananas — or both when making bowls.

🥝 Northside Shack | 3773 30th St., Ste. H, North Park + 1255 N. Rosecrans St., Point Loma

This smoothie shop brings creativity to its bowls by letting you pick a base — açaí, pitaya, coconut, or oatmeal. Then, you can load it with your pick of fruits, granola, and nut butters.

🍏 RootsBowls | 1225 University Ave., Hillcrest

With options like the “Hillcrest Bowl” or “North Park Bowl,” this shop takes advantage of the personalities within local communities. Of course, you can build your own bowl with the vast selections of toppings offered here.

🥭 Señor Mangos | 4607 30th St. + 3042 North Park Way, North Park

Whether you’re a fan of açaí or pitaya, this shop knows how to make your favorite meal. It also specializes in juices, meaning it's got plenty of fruit and they know how to make it taste good.

🍓 Rad Habits | 2967 Beech St., South Park

This smoothie expert also knows how to make a rad açaí bowl. The “Medicinal Bowl'' includes its “grass + shrooms superfood” blended into the base, giving it an extra earthy flavor.

🍍 Rum Jungle Cafe | 4150 Mission Blvd #153, Pacific Beach

After serving açaí for two decades, this restaurant knows how to make an environmentally friendly “bowl” by using a pineapple — making it a delicious option with minimal waste.

🍫 Cali Cafe | 3355 Sandrock Rd., Serra Mesa

Sometimes, you’re looking for a treat. Cali Cafe offers healthy açaí + red dragon fruit bowls, but options like the “Cookie Crumble” or “Chocoholic Bowl” will cater to your sweet tooth.
