With Sacramento Running Week fast approaching — it, ahem, runs Sun., Sept. 11-Sat., Sept. 17 — we thought we’d take a look at just some of the social running clubs that make the River City a great place to get outside and lace up.

Don’t like to run? No worries — several of these groups welcome people of all speeds, including walkers.

👟 Buffalo Chips Running Club

Sacramento’s longest running club — the herd came together in 1974 — welcomes all community members to join them Tuesdays at 5:45 p.m. for a speed session at Glenn Hall Park.

Pro tip: Keep an eye on the group’s event calendar for races, workouts + more, and be sure to sign the liability waiver before joining the stampede.

👟 Corremos Sacramento

While corremos translates to “we run,” this inclusive group welcomes both runners + walkers to weekly events in Land Park, Fair Oaks, and at surprise locations on Saturday mornings.

👟 9run6

Sweat it out for a sweet treat with this group on Friday mornings at Marie’s Donuts or enjoy a stately sunrise on Wednesdays when the crew meets at Capitol Park.

👟 Black Men Run Sac

Part of the national movement that encourages “African American men to get outside and be active,” the Sacramento chapter hosts recurring events throughout the week, like Sunday Run Day, that are open to everyone.

👟 Cap Tappers

Sometimes, all you want after a run is a beer. That’s part of the idea behind Cap Tappers: the group meets Mondays at 6:30 p.m. for a run + a round of drinks afterwards at Capitol Beer and Taproom.

👟 Sloppy Moose

“Antlers up” is the signature phrase for this River City-based social running club that likes to wear orange and goes for 3-mile runs at the Bike Dog Brewery on Thursdays in West Sacramento.
