The National Weather Service predicts severe thunderstorms, with a tornado risk for the Sacramento and San Joaquin valleys.

🤝 Pre-storm preparations

Monitor the local forecast at the National Weather Service’s website.
Keep an eye out for sagging trees or power lines + avoid crossing paths with them.
Bring pets inside or shelter them elsewhere out of the wind and threat of falling debris.
Make sure to secure any loose outdoor items + keep sidewalks and curbsides clear.
Place sandbags in front of doors to divert running water. Sandbags can be obtained at nine different locations in the area.
Unplug and elevate electric appliances if possible.
Have an emergency supply kit and a plan ready in the event of an evacuation.

🦺 Mindful maintenance

Refrain from driving and stay indoors, especially at night. If you do travel, check conditions on the CalTrans map beforehand.
Dress warmly to account for windchill if outside.
Do not walk or drive through flooded roadways, and never drive over downed power lines.
Call 911 only for emergencies. Downed trees and street flooding should be reported to 311.

⚒️ Recoup and rebuild

If you have concerns about a downed tree or fallen limb on your property, the city has created an FAQ on what steps to take. City officials said they are currently prioritizing downed trees on arterial (very busy) roads first, then collector (moderately busy) roads, and finally residential streets to try and speed up the recovery process.
Report power outages to SMUD at (888) 456-7683, or PG&E at (800) 743-5002.
